That was David Anthony Griffith’s explanation of two nine-month-old charges which he faced in the District “A” Traffic Court yesterday.

“At that point when I committed the offences last year, I had been smoking. I was living at Kemar Saffrey and at that point in time I used to walk the road 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and I find myself doing ignorance,” he told the court.
“Since then I am working hard. I don’t get myself in trouble and if I could be granted a fine, I would pay that out of my pay cheque,” he said, adding he had been out of prison for the last five years.
Griffith, 57, of Friendship, St Lucy, had just pleaded guilty to stealing three bottles of Listerine and two bottles of Equiline from Popular Discount on March 1, 2025.
He also admitted he had stolen seven bottles of deodorant from Popular Discount, on November 23, 2024, and three blocks of cheese from the same supermarket last November 16. He has 64 previous convictions for theft, burglary and drugs.
Magistrate Alison Burke sentenced him to three months in jail on each charge and ordered that they run consecutively for a total of nine months at Dodds Prison.
Prosecutor Station Sergeant St Clair Phillips said the shoplifter entered the supermarket, took the items and left without paying for them. His actions were caught on the closed-circuit cameras. (HLE)
