Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) Inc. has advised that, starting Friday, October 31, a controlled burn will take place on the airport compound from 6:30 a.m. and will be extinguished by 9:00 a.m., each day.

These controlled burns are expected to continue for at least one month, until the current backlog of waste has been safely cleared.

Each controlled burn will be closely supervised by the relevant personnel, including the Barbados Fire Service, to ensure that all safety protocols are followed.

This activity is necessary for health and sanitation reasons and is a temporary measure. No major impact is anticipated; however, members of the public are encouraged to make any necessary arrangements if they may be affected.

Management at the GAIA thanks members of the public for their understanding and patience as they work to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all. (GAIA/ BGIS)
