Workers at the Portvale factory went off the job in protest of what they claim to be the unfair dismissal of a colleague.

The worker was alleged to have aimed foul language at a supervisor.

A hearing was scheduled for today but the employee was dismissed before he could state his case.

Unity Workers Union General Secretary Caswell argued that the claims were unfounded as the witness statement was provided by someone who was not present when the incident took place.

He said that as a result, workers will not be working today and the action will escalate until the employee is returned to his post. (JRN)
