Former West Indies Under-19 cricketer Javon Searles suspended by ICC

Javon Searles, the former Barbados and West Indies Under 19 cricketer, has been named among three persons suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for alleged breaches of anti-corruption regulations.

The others charged are Trevon Griffith, the former Guyana batsman, and Chitranjan Rathod, a “team official”.

In a statement, the ICC indicated that the charges pertain to the 2024 Bim10 Tournament, which is governed by the anti-corruption code of Cricket West Indies (CWI).

Additionally, Griffith faces an extra charge related to international matches under the ICC’s anti-corruption code.

The 39-year-old Searles, played four matches for KKR in the IPL 2018. He also represented Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League between 2014 and 2019. Searles was a standout allrounder for West Indies at the Under-19 level.

He was also an excellent junior footballer and represented Barbados at several tournaments as a centre striker. He played professional cricket and football in England.

According to the ICC, Rathod faces three charges under the CWI code, while Searles has four charges against him. Griffith is charged with four offences under the CWI code and one under the ICC code. They have until March 11 to respond to the charges.

The trio is accused of fixing or attempting to improperly influence the result, progress, or conduct of matches during the Bim10 tournament.

They are also charged with soliciting or encouraging players or support personnel to commit anti-corruption offences and failing or refusing to cooperate with an official investigation. (PS)
