A small craft advisory is in effect for Barbados for above normal swell heights, and this pattern is expected to persist through Tuesday.
The Atlantic high-pressure system is generating winds of 20 to 25 knots across the Tropical Atlantic, says the Barbados Meteorological Services. As a result, moderate to fresh breezes are forecast across the island with gusts likely during shower activity.
Additionally, seas in open water are agitated with swell heights peaking near 3.0m. Near shore swells of 2.0m to 2.5m have been recorded along eastern coastlines. An improvement in sea conditions is likely from mid-week, with a slight reduction in wind speeds.
A small-craft advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) and/or reduced visibility (less than 10 km but greater than 5 km) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.
Marine users are encouraged to follow the advice of the National Conservation Commission and other relevant agencies.
The advisory will be terminated at 6 p.m. Tuesday May 19, 2026, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
