Barbados top female golfer Emily Odwin finally got off the mark as a pro player after she completed her first EPSON Tour tournament, the Hartford HealthCare Women’s Championship, played at Golf Club of Avon, Avon, Connecticut, last week.
After four rounds, Odwin finished tied for 59th with Jieni Li and Gianna Clemente with her carded score of six over par 290 (71,73,71,75).
Odwin had failed to make the cut in her previous five tournaments.
In round one, the former Southern Methodist University student finished with a carded score equal to par 71 with birdies on the ninth and 16th holes and bogeys on the tenth and 12th holes.
She followed up with a carded performance of two above par 73, which included one birdie on the 15th hole and bogeys on the fourth, tenth and 14th holes.
With that score, she made the cut and in response, her mother, Orna Odwin, who has been a constant source of support for her daughter, shared a short message on social media.
“Emily has made her first professional cut! A great milestone, a proud moment and another step forward in her journey. Many more to come,” she posted.
Odwin then followed that with a consistent performance in her final two rounds. In round three, she scored a two over-par 71 with four birdies on the third, tenth, 16th and 18th holes and bogeys in the second, fifth, sixth and 12th holes.
In the final round, she completed her first tournament with a score of 75 with five bogeys in the fourth, fifth, eighth, 11th and 14th holes and one birdie on the ninth.(SW)
