Dust haze advisory for Barbados

Barbadians with respiratory issues and allergies are being advised to take all of the necessary precautions as concentrations of dust haze are expected to increase overnight.

The Barbados Meteorological Services issued the advisory this evening, and while some improvement is expected tomorrow, a plume of moderate dust haze affected the island throughout the afternoon and satellite imagery shows a thick plume which is expected overnight.

This will be felt across Barbados and its marine space.

People with allergies should have all relevant medications close to hand. Marine users, particularly operators of small vessels, should stay close to shore as there will be a significant reduction in visibility.

A dust-haze advisory is issued when dust haze is affecting or forecast to reduce visibility to between 6 to 10 km within 48 hours.

This Significant Dust Haze Advisory was issued at 6 p.m. today and will be terminated at 6 a.m. tomorrow, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
