As a strong tropical wave begins to affect the island, triggering pockets of moderate to heavy showers from tonight, the Barbados Meteorological Services is warning of possible flooding.
The Met Office has issued a flash-flood watch, effective 6 p.m. today.
Rainfall accumulations in the range of 25mm to 50mm are possible across sections of Barbados. These unstable conditions will be accompanied by gusty winds as well as thunderstorm activity.
A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall could result in rapid flooding – generally within two hours – but it does not mean flooding will occur.
This flash-flood watch will be updated at 6 a.m. tomorrow, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
