The President’s Trust will officially launch the Chapman Challenge next month, with the national initiative aimed at helping young Barbadians develop leadership, resilience and other skills to reach their full potential.
The programme, being undertaken under the patronage of President Jeffrey Bostic, will target people between the ages of 10 and 24.
Bostic described the Chapman Challenge as the first and flagship activity of the President’s Trust.
“When I was elected as President of Barbados, I wanted to do some things that would make a difference in the lives of the people of Barbados. The Chapman Challenge is the first of such activities. It is the first and the flagship activity of the President’s Trust,” he said.
The three-tiered programme will provide mentorship and other support to participants while promoting excellence, leadership, personal development, resilience, national pride, service, teamwork and responsible citizenship.
Bostic said the initiative was designed to give young people the support needed to pursue their goals.
“The vision is to provide opportunities for every Barbadian child to be able to get the scaffolding that would allow them to achieve their objectives and this really is the genesis behind the vision for the Chapman Challenge,” he said.
“We will provide all of the tools necessary to help you to map your journey, to follow your journey, to achieve the objectives so that you can reach your destination.”
The President’s Trust said the programme reflects its commitment to investing in people and creating opportunities that contribute to the social and economic advancement of Barbados.
The official launch will take place on October 9 at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, beginning at 11 a.m.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is also expected to attend and deliver remarks in support of the initiative.
Government officials, community leaders, stakeholders, sponsors, participants and supporters are expected to attend the launch. (PR)
