Five-star spell from Warrican as Windies bowl out Bangladesh

West Indies spinners Jomel Warrican and Joshua Bishop ripped the heart out of the Bangladesh batting on the second day of the first Test on Thursday. Resuming the day at 231-3, Bangladesh was dismissed for 272 as they lost  seven wickets for 59 runs in the morning session at the Sher-e-Bangla in Dhaka.

Left-armer Warrican claimed 5-53 off 23.5 overs. Fellow left-arm pinner Joshua Bishop took 2-61 on debut. Pacer Shamar Joseph, who ended with 2-41, dealt a double blow with the wickets of Nayeem Hasan and Hasan Murad.

Warrican started the day with two wickets and came back to complete the demolition when he by dismissed Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam as Bangladesh lost their last five wickets for 19 runs.

The 34-year-old Warrican finished with fourth five-wicket haul of his career. It followed up the 6-112 he took in his last Test appearance against Pakistan in Trinidad.

The West Indies then made a promising start before Bangladesh’s spinners Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan took four wickets in quick succession. They closed the day on 134-4 in 48 overs before play again ended early due to bad light and rain.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul was unbeaten on 43 with Justin Greaves on 15 not out at the close. Opener John Campbell struck 54 with six fours and two sixes off 78 balls which gave the visitors a fluent start. (PS)
