MARKET VENDOR: Salutes all around

I TELL WUNNAH ever since that Manning would get rinse out by Kamla but wunnah prefer to listen  to a whole set of jokers saying it too tight to call,  the only thing tight in this election was the noose Kamla had for Patrick! Congrats to the first female PM of T&T, the Vendor wish you well.I getting plenty invitations to parties, the latest, to a children’s party this Saturday at river road when Auntie Olga (the Dame herself) will roll back father time and bring back the team from yesteryear, including one “Uncle Joe.” And lo  and behold, I get invite to a 75th birthday party,  but this is no wheel chair bound ole girl, she kicking like Kevin Pieterson at the wicket and she got four daughters too. One I like bad, cause she Hott, another is a good Christian girl and loves the Gospel, the third full of LOVE and the oldest is girl with a lot of opinions and chat, we does call she the VOICE! 75 years young and still putting the little whipper snappers in they place! Yes Starcom Network Inc., all Bubbadus join in congratulating you pun your  75th anniversary! This past week too, some gorriliphants  in the electronic media business were honoured  by Starcom Network in a Salute To Excellence  at the Crane hotel. These were household names and I was delighted that the late and beloved A.P. Alfred Pragnel was among them. Listening to the citations (yes I did get a pick, they needed to fill up the space) ah couldn’t help but wonder whose names we would call  in a few years from now, thankfully a few did come  to mind! The book Living My Dream, the story  of the life, struggles and challenges of a man named Joseph Perreira, (we know him as “Reds”) was launched in Bubbadus and he autograph one fuh de Vendor. This book should inspire any young person, any one struggling against the odds, anyone  who has a dream. It must have been a joke when a stammering young man said that he wanted to be a broadcaster! Who would have believed that a boy from very modest surroundings, inhibited by stammering and lacking a great formal education could have risen to become one of the two best known names in radio commentary in the Caribbean for over a quarter of a century. “Reds” overcame the odds. He knew that education was more than academics and worked relentlessly in pursuit of his goals. He never gave up, he took risks that few would contemplate, he travelled to far away places to be that voice for the region in cricket, living at times in the most difficult of circumstances, depending on the goodwill of many, all in fulfilment of his dream. When a stroke threatened his life and career  in far away Australia, this intrepid journalist  and broadcaster, clawed his way back working day by day to recover full use of his body which had been paralysed on the left side. You have to buy  the book people!Lesser mortals would have given up but lesser mortals do not carry the name “Reds” Resourceful, Energetic, Determined, Stubborn. Who would have thought that a boy from the outback of Guyana,  the Pomeroon, lacking the education and resources of the privileged could have risen to achieve what this man has achieved in his lifetime, and he still keeps on going. Joseph “Reds” Perriera, I Market Vendor salute you, you are an awesome inspiration.I Market Vendor gone fuh now.You have a blessed and a wonderful day, yuh hearrr!
