THERE WERE no protestations of love from self-confessed bigamist Calvin Glyne Rock yesterday.
Instead, he said he was “a practising Christian” who wanted “to do right by God” but “had let this thing fester”.
Rock, 66, of Plumgrove, Lodge Road, Christ Church, was telling the court his side of the story after pleading guilty to bigamy in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday.
He admitted that he married Barbadian Iva Eudene Gittens on December 18, 2004, during the life of his American wife Maddly Hicks-Tindale.
“Today I want to throw myself on the mercy of the court and ask for the leniency of the court,” he said.
“I am very sorry it had to happen but being a practising Christian I really wanted to do right by God, and I let this thing fester and I am really and truly sorry,” he said.
Prefacing his comments by saying it was with “great remorse” that he spoke to the court, Rock said society did not prepare him for “for what jail really is”.
“And while there I was praying to God five times a day almost to bring my life back together,” he told the court.
He also said he had two grandchildren whom he missed.
However, he noted his time on remand was not all negative since he had started ministering to some of the young men in prison.
Rock was released on bail and will return to court later in the Sessions to be sentenced.
