PUBLIC BATHROOMS at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) were reopened yesterday after being closed for five months and $80 000 in “major upgrades”.
The QEH’s director of engineering services, Paula Yarde, told a media conference in the boardroom, that the bathrooms, which had been vandalised, were redesigned and refashioned.
Yarde, who said the refurbished bathrooms would also cater to people with disabilities, apologised to the public for any inconvenience caused while the bathrooms were out of operation, and appealed to people to care them.
She said the QEH had a “zero tolerance” policy for vandalism, and warned that anyone caught damaging the property would be prosecuted.
“It is not just bathrooms that are being vandalised, but also throughout several areas in the hospital,” Yarde added. “The bathrooms were in a very deplorable state. I am sure that you will be surprised and pleased with the finished product.
“We really don’t want to take it to the lengths that we would have to. But after having just undertaken the kind of capital expenditure that we have done for these facilities, we have no choice but to protect the interest of the facilities.” (AH)
