Dear Christine,
I AM WRITING this letter with tears in my eyes.
I have just come home from the doctor and the news he has given me is not very good.
Christine, I am 78 years old and my two daughters and my sisters all live abroad.
I was very happy because my second daughter and the grandchildren are coming home to see me in July.
My daughter wants to come for Crop-Over and this time she will be bringing my three grands to spend some time with me.
Christine, I was so excited because I have not seen them in two years.
However, last month I noticed that my sinuses were acting up, but this time I was seeing blood. I decided to go to the doctor and did so last week and now he is sending me to have a cat-scan.
This sounds so serious Christine, I am very afraid.
I do not even want to tell my daughters and my sisters.
I know someone who had a similar problem and hers turned out to be cancer. I don’t know how I’ll break the news to my family if this is cancer.
I am praying night and day that I will still be alive when my family comes in July.
What should I do Christine, should I tell them before they get here?
I do not want to worry them.

Dear GLADYS P:
YOU are worrying yourself unnecessarily.
I am sure your doctor has suggested a cat-scan just to be on the safe side.
If he did not say anything else to make you worry, then don’t.
Do not judge your case because of what may have happened to someone else.
My suggestion also, is that you do not worry your family unnecessarily.
Go and get the cat-scan done as soon as possible, so you know what is wrong or not wrong and that way your fears will be eased.
Do not spend time worrying. After you have done the cat-scan, then you can share the news with your family because then you would have something more factual to tell them.
Until then, continue to prepare for your family. I am sure they are excited to see you as you are to see them . . . I can’t think of anything that you have told me which makes me think that you will not be alive in July. – CHRISTINE
