COLIN SYMES and the crew of the First Caribbean-sponsored Maximum took the overall honours in the Caribbean Money Market Brokers (Barbados) Ltd (CMMB) sponsored second annual Barbados J24 International race for charity sailing regatta.
The regatta, which was held over two days, concluded last Sunday with the awards presentation at the Barbados Yacht Club.
Maximum, which finished second to Steve Bushes’ Ambushe on Saturday, reversed the positions on the final day with a clinical performance.
Speaking to the DAILY NATION after the presentation, Symes said it was his team’s consistency that won them the regatta.
“It was close racing right from the start. We were consistent over the two days, and that was the key to winning.”
He also noted that while Day 1 was a bit more breezy and shifty, on Sunday the winds were a bit lighter which made it more challenging for the competitors.
Finishing in second position overall was Ambushe, while Hawkeye, which finished third on the previous afternoon, finished in the same overall position.
A total of 14 boats took part in the charity event in an effort to help raise $100 000 towards five children’s charities in Barbados.
This year’s event held in association with the Barbados Community Foundation and the Barbados J24 Club, attracted sailors from Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Grenada, St Lucia and host country Barbados. (CH)
