TEN NEWCOMERS are among the list of names announced for the semi-finals of the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Calypso Competition on July 11 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre at 6 p.m.
The junior competitors will have opportunity to hone their skills before then, however.
Twelve contestants in the eight to 12, and 13 in the 13 to 18 category will perform in two tents on June 20 and 27 at Solidarity House and Alexandra School respectively.
They will also perform at a sunset concert at Solidarity House on July 15 and a lunchtime concert at the Frank Collymore Hall in preparation for the big final showdown at the National Stadium on July 24.
A new monarch will be crowned in the eight to 12 category because last year’s monarch Johari Dazzle Taitt has graduated to the adult category, making her an automatic semi-finalist.
The semi-finalists in both categories are as follows:
Eight to 12: Jazz Jazz Z Gittens, Myles Myles-Z Gittens, Ric-Anne Candy Princess Brathwaite, Rashad De Professor Weekes, Everika Lil T Clarke-Weekes, Terig Adonis Linton, Ranesha Confetti Cummins, Nicholas Nik Roach-Holder, Tyanna Sweet T Malcolm, Taryn Princess T Lynch, Jalani Enforcer Millar and Adonica AD Shepherd. Aterah The Messenger Alleyne is the reserve.
Thirteen to 18: Akila Latifa Small, Aziza Lil Az Clarke, Rabiah Small One Clarke, Daquon Tall Boy Wickham, Alexandra New Dawn Goddard, Jahlyn Jahailer Noel, Gregerson Young G Abraham, Anique Cher Herbert, Leah Leah Griffith, Jamal Sharky Beckles, Zahira Barbie Best, Dee-Anne Divine Dottin and Johari Dazzle Taitt, with Ashley Queen Ashe Green as the reserve.
