The usual gift-shopping hype associated with Mother’s Day was noticeably absent for Father’s Day being observed today. Some businesses reported increased sales yesterday but explained they were marginal. At Abed’s on Swan Street, assistant manager Richard Holder said, “Shopping for Mother’s Day is more aggressive. Father’s Day shopping is slowly beginning to pick up.”  Holder said there was the usual case of shoppers selecting shirts as gifts for dads. The store, which offered a 20 per cent discount for formal wear, saw increased sales for the more popular items, formal suits and linen shirts.Line and Length Barber Shop at Sheraton Centre reported increased business through its $20 special for a father and son haircut.Thereesha Singh told the Sunday Sun: “Things have been quite busy and we had a few fathers and sons coming in throughout the day.”   When the SUNDAY SUN visited, Kelvin Clarke and his three-year-old son Kevon were getting themselves prepared for a lunch outing today. At the Hallmark store, also in Sheraton Mall, store manager Tracia Roachford said: The sales are comparable to last year’s, we are having good sales.” Cards and balloons were the fastest moving items.Roachford noted that sales were better than anticipated but still could not compare to those for Mother’s Day.
