We ain’t dumping in the ocean,We ain’t dumping on the land, The only place we dumping, is in the garbage can’.This rhyme wasn’t only quick and catchy, but hammered home the ‘no dumping concept’ to students at the Hilda Skeene Primary School yesterday during their Healthy Lifestyle Day programme. The event, which is in its second year, saw students practising healthy eating, exercising and learning how to keep their environments and homes free from garbage and pesky mosquitoes.Students at the St Philip school also engaged in several exercises, and the older students hiked to Bushy Park and back.Apples, oranges, grapes, watermelons and more were among packed lunches, while the school offered fruit juices and hot breadfruit balls for sale.Public Relations Officer at the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA). Carl “Alff” Padmore, spoke to students about how to keep their environment clean, and encouraged them to get into recycling.Padmore also informed them of the importance of proper disposal and showed them how to dispose of cans, needles and broken glass. The SSA also brought the mascot Sam, who represents a ‘lorry loader’ and he held the children’s attention. The PRO said what he found most interesting at the school was that children were keen to learn about the recycling process and what essentially was Sam’s job.Health Officers from the St Philip Polyclinic, who had a house display with a little farm setting, also caught the tots’ attention with the animals.
