THE ISLAND’S young surfers headed East to contest the third event of the Barbados Junior Surfing Club’s 2010 Burkie Junior Surf Series sponsored by Ashford Dairies. After the swell had all but disappeared on the South Coast, the contest was moved to Parlour, St Joseph, which still offered up some surf for the juniors, and they did not disappoint in entertaining the crowd. In the Premier Division, the Boys’ Under-18 Daniel Edghill slashed and hacked his way to a first place finish, moving into second place in the overall rankings. He is now chasing Joshua Burke who has been dominant in the division throughout the season. Other contenders did not disappoint with second placed Jordan Heaselgrave displaying his vertical attack on the small rights, third placed Burke carving and throwing some mean rail grabs, and fourth placed Dane Mackie laying down his backside reverses with ease.In the club’s youngest division, 10-and-Under, Che Allan continued his dominance, scoring a hat-trick with his third win of the season in a row, and fending off charges by Andrew Rose, Evan Moll and Zander Venezia. In the 12-and-Under Division, Burke and Mackie have been jostling for lead position throughout the season but Burke took contest three and the overall lead. Lilly von Truenfels continued to dominate the 12-and-Under Girls with her second win for the season holding off Isabella Venezia, who is keeping on the pressure. The 14-and-Under saw the rivalry between Burke and Dane Mackie continued but Chelsea Tuach, with a second placed finish behind Burke in the final, now moves Mackie just a few points behind Burke in the overall standings, making the last two contests of the year vital in determining this division’s eventual outcome. The Under-16 Division saw Tuach edge Chelsea Roett for the win, putting her within reach in the overall standings. The girls continued the battle into the Under-18 Girls Division but this time Roett bested Tuach with her third win in a row for the season and expanded her lead in that division. (PR/HLE)
