LUCK just doesn’t seem to be going Darren Sammy’s way in West Indies cricket. After the selectors had overlooked him for the first two Tests in Trinidad and Tobago and St Kitts, it was anticipated that the St Lucian all-rounder would play in the third and final Digicel Test starting at Kensington Oval today, replacing the injured Ravi Rampaul. But a thigh strain has ruled him out, making the way clear for the only other specialist fast bowler in the squad Nelon Pascal, to win his second Test cap and share the new ball with Kemar Roach.“Sammy actually picked up an injury yesterday (Thursday), so injury is actually playing a part in our team as well. “We try to avoid these things but we are down to 12 players at this point in time. So whosoever is given the chance, hopefully he can contribute in whatever area,” Gayle said. However, chairman of the selectors Clyde Butts told the SATURDAY SUN that while an additional fast bowler was not added to the squad, the necessary cover would be put in place.“We have drafted in a couple (Shamarh Brooks and Keron Cottoy) players to help us out in terms of the fielding, but I don’t think we will have a problem with drafting in somebody to replace any player if it is necessary,” Butts said.Butts said he didn’t see it as a problem summoning one of the fast bowlers from the High Performance Centre, which began here earlier this month, to join the squad.“At this moment, we haven’t named anybody but we will have our cover,” he added.
