Li’l Rick, sacked from Starcom Network, has found a berth with another radio station. From noon today, the popular and controversial radio deejay and artiste will host a programme on the island’s newest radio station, SLAM 101.1 FM.On Thursday, Starcom Network announced that Ricky “Hypa Dawg” Reid would no longer be hosting the Makeson Triple Tunes programme on Saturday afternoons on HOTT 95.3 FM. Starcom said that he breached the company’s broadcast policy when music containing lewd lyrics reached the public domain last Saturday.Managing director of SLAM 101.1 F.M Habib Elias told the SATURDAY SUN that Lil’ Rick was being engaged as a freelance announcer from today, and with open arms.Elias said he was excited that Reid would “join the family”. “We’re very excited to have him on board. He’s a great deejay and personality and will bring a lot to listenership and the business.” Elias confirmed that he was keen to have Reid join the team since SLAM started broadcasting at the beginning of the year.Elias also said that since no one was allowed to bring in laptops and the system did not take CDs, what happened at Starcom “will never happen here”. All the music is put in by one person who is the programme director,” Elias said.He explained that SLAM had facilities for MP3s only and a 15-second delay transmission system should the need arise. Li’l Rick’s management confirmed the new arrangement with SLAM.
