Jackson spoil Leacock’s dream

THERE WAS NO CHAMPAGNE. No hurrahs. Nothing special at all.Worse yet, Godfrey Leacock couldn’t even celebrate his career night with a victory either.Peter Alleyne had 26 points and ten rebounds to lead five players in double digits, as British American Insurance Jackson rendered Leacock’s Premier League basketball season’s best 39 points trivial in Sunday’s 105-85 rout of lowly Nicholls Baking Cougars at the Wildey Gym.It was the second time in as many years the Jackson side spoiled a career high individual effort, following DC United’s swingman Selwyn Brooks’ similarly futile 41-point performance of a year ago.Alleyne, the reigning MVP, hooked up with “big men” Pearson Griffith and Neil Harewood for 25 points in the second quarter, accounting for all but four of a 27-8 run, to finish the half that transformed a two-point deficit into 56-39.This came on the heels of Leacock’s surreal first quarter, where the gung-ho rookie sank three treys in scoring 17 of Cougars’ first 23 points. But they didn’t actually lead until the opening minutes of the second period, and that advantage was rather brief until Griffith responded with a huge two-handed dunk.
