THE Division 1 cricket league, which enters its third round tomorrow, will now be the LIME Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Division 1 competition.Yesterday, the telecommunications giant formalised their support of premier league cricket in Barbados with the signing of a sponsorhsip agreement at  Kensington Oval.
Managing director Alex McDonald signed for LIME while BCA president Joel Garner along with cricket operations manager Howard Rollins represented the BCA.Caribbean Alliance Insurance had sponsored the Division 1 competition for the past couple of years.  While LIME and the BCA expressed delight with the new sponsorship as well as the hope that it would follow the 25 years support of the BCA’s Under-15 competition, McDonald remained guarded as to the amount or length of the sponsorship. The LIME executive was equally reserved in pointing out some of the hinted rewards that might be thrown into the pot for outstanding performances.  However, cricket legend Garner stated that the sponsorship which would involve cash and kind was expected to be around $50 000 annually.Garner also disclosed that the sponshorship had been guaranteed before the start of the 2010 domestic season but the aim was to announce the deal at the most appropriate time.  Garner also explained that the 2009 awards ceremony had been delayed because of a number of protests and appeals which would have impacted on the placings in Division One.McDonald indicated that as part of the sponsorship, LIME would look at upgrading the media facilities at the Division 1 grounds so that communications would be at a level to transfer news and images as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
