The Wednesday 2000 family will more than live up to its slogan, “More Fun Than Any Other Band”, as the group celebrates its 15th anniversary with the 2010 production, The Ties That Bind.Bandleader Brian Corbin reported that with a soft opening and before the official launch, only a handful of costumes remain for ladies. The band was now in the happy predicament of trying to decide if to add a new section. The Ties That Bind reflects the core of Wednesday 2000 – which has kept the band together for 15 years. This year’s sections are Love, Nationhood, Empathy and Celebration – Mas, with the latter section having four different costumes reflecting traditional aspects often reflected in bands and mas. Most bands this year have increased the cost of costumes, but Wednesday 2000 has reduced theirs, while maintaining an exceptional package. They will also be hosting its usual activities including Wuk Up Wednesday at the bandhouse on the Careenage, Bridgetown.A large contingent of regulars from Britain, Canada and the United States will be reunited for the Wednesday 2000 anniversary, along with a contingent from Martinique. The theme for the Junior Kadooment band, Pride And Industry, is The Barbados Coat Of Arms. One hundred-and-fifty young revellers will highlight all the elements in the Coat of Arms, representative of Barbados over the years up to Independence. It is Wednesday 2000’s belief that now is the time to draw attention to this national symbol. The sections are Los Barbados, Pellicante, Brown Sugar/Sugar Cane, Deep Blue Sea and Reflection (Tribute To St Andrew). The kiddies band will enjoy a package including a goody bag, snacks and a catered lunch.Costumes are on display at the bandhouse, which is open daily from 10 a.m., except on Sundays when it opens at 5 p.m.
