MOBILE, Ala. – Choppy seas and stiff winds are continuing to hamper the Gulf oil spill cleanup on the Alabama coast and neighboring shorelines.
Coast Guard Cmdr. Chuck Diorio said today that waves of four to six feet had hampered skimming yesterday and again today.
At a news briefing in Mobile, cleanup officials said that a prevailing southeasterly wind was pushing the oil spill more to the northwest, shifting it generally away from the Florida Panhandle and more toward Mississippi and Louisiana.
Diorio said he did not see a change in the winds over the next few days, and that cleanup efforts are being shifted accordingly. (AP)
