Girl who taught you to wine like dat?I never know you could wine like datWho taught you to wuk up like dat?I never know you could wuk like dat!Chorus of Go Down by Li’l RickIT SEEMS THAT EVERYBODY is ready to Go Down jamming to Li’l Rick’s hottest tune – so say some of those involved in the music industry.Sebastian Legall, website manager of Bajantube.com, said their statistics showed that Go Down has moved fastest to the top of the charts on the website. He said he believed the song was enjoying so much success because it was “danceable for the ladies”.Peter Coppin of Monstapiece Productions, who worked with Li’l Rick on the track, said “we didn’t expect that type of response” to the song.Over at SlamFM 101.1, Li’l Rick’s tune is one of the most heavily requested by listeners. DJ Patrick Salt Bellamy said: “The song just makes people want to party.”Bellamy noted that Blood and Mikey’s Whole Place Mash Up and Edwin’s Chrissening have been big movers as well.DJ and artiste Verseewild said that he was having a difficult time selecting his favourite songs for the season as he was impressed with much of the music currently out there. He noted, however, that in addition to Go Down and Mr Dale’s Drop It, Vincentian soca monarch Skinny Fabolous’ Charge Up was getting very positive feedback on the airwaves.Unfortunately, the newcomers to the music industry this year aren’t enjoying similar success.“Most of them need to go back to the drawing board,” stated FM 98.1 DJ Dave Smooth. He noted that while many of them may have good ideas, their vocal ability was unsatisfactory and simple training could help to correct this problem.Smooth said he tries his best to support up-and-coming talent, “even if it means just playing their songs once a week”.“This year just funny for new people . . . it seems to be a year for the veterans,” said Salt. However, he stated that Hypa Kids seemed to be leading their adult counterparts with the popular Happy Feet.Verseewild is putting much support behind the new artists, but “there are so many of them” and, as a result, it has become impossible to listen to all their songs or play them, he said. “There is no one song leading by a landslide from among the newcomers.”Ronnie Clarke, programme director of Starcom Network Inc., said that the newcomers needed to “meet the standards set by the veterans” so that much of the music being produced would have more market appeal.
