Prayers for healing

INFIRMITIES, we say go. Healing, we say come. That’s what more than two dozen priests virtually said in one voice on behalf of ailing Prime Minister David Thompson at an Inter-Denominational prayer service at the Wildey Gymnasium, last night.About 2 000 Barbadians packed the Garfield Sobers Complex to hear some of this country’s most dynamic preachers pray for Thompson, this country’s sixth Prime Minister, who has taken a two-month leave of office to battle a serious illness. The spiritual parliament prayed for all of his organs and that all of his joints be cleansed and be made healthy while  parliamentary members, led by acting Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and President of the Senate Branford Taitt, sat in reverence during the two-hour service. However, it was his mother, Margaret Knight, who struck an emotional chord.“I can’t tell you how much this gladdens my heart. I am completely overwhelmed by this outpouring of support. It’s a trying time for all of us but I have implicit faith in God.“All things are possible with God on your side. David will be healed. David will be healed. Vaya Con Dios [Go with God].” Apostle Stephen Holford and Monsignor Vincent, told the congregation that they survived near death experiences because of the power of prayer and the 48-year-old Thompson, too, would recover.“I was on a hospital bed dying. By way of prayer, I was brought back from the dead,” said Holford, who prayed for the sickness to be gone and for Thompson to arise and be healed.Apostle Eliseus Joseph rendered an impassionate prayer in which he pleaded for every fibre of Thompson’s tissue to be purified while Reverend Dr Lucille Baird led a prayer for his wife, children, parents and relatives, calling for them to be encircled with love.Bishop Wesley Dear reminded the congregation that prayer changes things.“We are hear to pray to God for supernatural intervention. We are hear to break the chains of sickness and disease.“By way of prayer, healing is guaranteed. God send help and rescue our Prime Minister.”The most captivating musical session of the night was a duet by talented song bird Paula Hinds and Reverend Ferdinand Nicholls of The Prayer which earned them a standing ovation.Coordinator of the event, Senator Reverend David Durant, wished Thompson a swift recovery.Earlier yesterday, the People’s Cathedral also held a special prayer session for Thompson which was led by Senior Pastor Emeritus Holmes Williams.
