THE POPULAR Brandons Beach will be a sea of bodies and pulsating pan rhythms this Sunday.
Pan Pun De Sand, which has emerged as one of the more anticipated events on the Crop-Over calendar, will kick off at 3 p.m.As a result of the massive crowd for last year’s show, producer the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) has made some adjustments to the physical space.Unlike previous years when the stage backed the sea and was down the beach, this year the stage will be backing the Flour Mill and situated to the left of Weisers On The Bay, making for a longer stretch to more comfortably accommodate patrons.Coordinator Karen Pestaina said the NCF was using a different theme this year, and Pan Pun de Sand would be an all-acoustic affair. There will be no performances from the popular soca artistes this season. The main attraction will be the local Mosiac Orchestra which will bring a 50-strong group and players under the direction of David Ziggy Walcott. It is the largest band to appear at Pan Pun de Sand to date.Eastland Allstars, Pan Batuque, Israel Lovell Foundation Steel Orchestra and Olakunde are the other groups flying the local flag.Grenadian group Goyabe, LH Pan Groove of Trinidad and Panache from Antigua make up the overseas contingent. The Spring Garden Highway will be closed for the duration, and access to the car park on the opposite side of Brandons will be through Deacon’s Farm. (YB)
