Bajan girls lose v-ball opener

BARBADOS’ POOR VOLLEYBALL record against CVC champions, Trinidad and Tobago women continued on Sunday, day 1 of the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, as the Bajans joined three other teams in stumbling to straight sets losses.Barbados, who had received a late call up to the Games after Colombia withdrew, went down to T&T 16-25, 23-25, 20-25.  Professional player Anicia Wood led Barbados with seven points while Krystelle Esdelle and Kelly-Ann Billingy scored 16 and 15 points respectively for the winners.  Ironically, Barbados committed 20 unforced errors to T&T’s 31.The other pool A game saw the defending champions, the Dominican Republic beating Costa Rica 25-14, 25-22, 25-20.  The Group B matches were even more one-sided as hostesses Puerto Rico whipped Nicaragua, 25-14, 25-16, 25-11, and Mexico topped Guatemala, 25-16, 25-14, 25-18.Yesterday, Barbados also went down 25-6, 25-9, 25-6  to the Dominican Republic.
