THERE WAS double disappointment for Barbados as both the men’s and women’s teams lost their opening matches at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Table Tennis Championships in San German, Puerto Rico yesterday.The women folded to Colombia, 0-3, without winning a game, but the men put up more resistance although also falling 0-3, to Mexico.Team captain Sherice Felix lost the opening set against Paula Medina at five, two and three, while veteran Ann Reid fell to Johana Araque at seven, eight, and seven. In the doubles, Reid and Julia Morris lost to Araque and Nathalia Bedoya at six, four, and four.Robert Roberts rediscovered the harsh nature of international competition on his return to the Barbados team for the first time in four years, losing 3-11, 11-8, 7-11, 5-11 to Marcos Madrid.Team captain Trevor Farley lost in straight games to Jude Okoh at six, six, and seven but joined with Anderson Carrington to put on a better show in the doubles. The pair lost 11-5, 6-11, 7-11, and 6-11. (PH)
