BRANDONS BEACH was transformed into a party setting last Sunday afternoon as thousands of people jammed to the captivating rhythms of pan music at the annual Pan Pun De Sand event. Both the young and the old came together at the Spring Garden location to join in what seemed to be one of the most highly anticipated events of the Crop-Over season. A number of local and regional pan players kept the massive crowd rocking and dancing from start to finish with the infectious beat of pan music. The event, which is in its sixth year, started promptly at 3 p.m., and at about 8: 45 p.m. it was time for the crowd to disperse. It was obvious that patrons went away with a feeling of satisfaction.
One of the highlights of the evening was the performance of the LH Pan Groove out of Trinidad. As they moved through the crowd playing their instruments, patrons formed a line and followed them. “That too soon… they done already?” exclaimed one man, after the energetic performance from the Trinidadian group. This year there were no performances from soca artistes. However, the party spirit remained high, and coordinator of the event Karen Pestaina said she was hoping to make next year’s event even “bigger”. (MM)
