ON THE track and in the field, Barbados have been cleaning up the medals at the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) Games in St Kitts.They had already won 18 (seven gold, six silver and five bronze), with several events still to be contested in the late session yesterday.Brandon Hope set the tone, winning the first gold medal in the second event of the day when he cleared 1.60 metres, a record in the Under-13 boys’ high jump.Also winning gold medals were Winmalecia Bowen in the Under-15 girls’ javelin with a throw of 31 metres, as well as Tamia Holder (3.24m) and Jahlarni Toney (3.84m) who swept the Under-9 long jump events.On the track, official times were not available but according to assistant manager Janelle Denny, Ajani Haddock won the Under-9 boys’ 100 metres; Tristan Evelyn slammed the field in the Under-13 girls’ 100 metres, and Jaria Hoyte captured gold in the Under-13 girls’ 400.Shonita Brome took silver in the U-11 girls’ long jump with 4.19m. Silver medals went to Ajani’s twin sister Leilani Haddock in the Under-9 girls’ 100 metres; Joash Best in the Under-13 boys’ 100m, and Fabian Leon and Kedane Pollard in the 400 metres. (SAT)
