Barbados out of doubles

BARBADOS narrowly missed out on the medal round in men’s doubles after Trevor Farley and Robert Roberts were beaten at the quarter-final stage as the Central American And Caribbean Table Tennis Championships continued in San German, Puerto Rico, yesterday. Roberts and Farley were overpowered by the Mexican pair of Jude Okoh and Guillermo Munoz 11-5, 5-11, 11-8, 11-8 in a match that started at 11 a.m. Earlier in the morning, the Barbadian duo earned the quarter-final berth through a hard fought win over El Salvador’s Josue Donado and Edilberto Merino 7-11, 17-15, 12-10, 11-7.The other Barbadian men’s pair of Anderson Carrington and Mark Dowell lost 0-3 to the Guatemalan combination of Jose Ramirez and Omar Flores. Like Barbados, the Guatemalans later lost their quarter-final encounter, going under to Marcos Madrid and Salvador Uribe of Mexico in an intense battle that ended 3-2.Two pairs from the Dominican Republic advanced to the semi-finals.  Ju Lin combined with Juan Vila to beat Veneuela’s Luis Diaz and Marco Navas 11-7, 15-13, 11-9.   Samuel Galvez and Emil Santos, also of the Dominican Republic won their quarter-final contest against Caribbean men’s singles champion Hector Berrios of Puerto Rico and his partner Daniel Gonzalez 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.
