Incoming manager of the local branch of Guardian Life of the Caribbean, Amado Marcano says he intends to build a competitive company.  Speaking recently during a cocktail function at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St Michael, Marcano said he would “make Guardian a threat to Sagicor”.  “If you think about it, there is a great opportunity now in this industry.  “What has happened in the recent past leaves Barbados in a situation where it only has one company, basically, and nobody would like to see a monopoly take place,” Trinidadian-born Marcano said.
‘Think large’He noted that Guardian Life had to “think large” and operate as though it was a large company.  “In Barbados, we are a very small company today but five years from today we will not be the same company,” Marcano said, noting that the business was currently seeking several  managers and dynamic salespeople.  “The future from where I sit looks very bright,” he said.  Marcano replaces fellow Trinidadian Patrick Charles, who will return to his home to assist vice-president of sales Michael Austin.  Guardian Life Holdings is a conglomerate of insurance and financial services companies in the Caribbean. Its headquarters is in Trinidad and Tobago and its history goes back to 1847. At one time it was known as Standard Life. (NB)
