Noise sufferers vote too

A LETTER-WRITER, Ann Walcott, last Friday made this observation: “The hypocrisy of the Government” is laughable.

On the one hand they prate about productivity, yet they allow unbelievable levels of noise to pierce the quiet of early morning when hard-working citizens are trying to rest and recuperate for the day ahead.

”They don’t see the connection. Indeed, some of the politicians are themselves among the noise-makers.

Since 1979 they’ve been fooling around and promising serious noise pollution legislation.

They are not serious. Ms. Walcott also asked: “What about the elderly in our community, the sick and the very young, all of whom need their rest? Do these people not deserve some consideration, or is the party constituency the only one which matters to politicians?”It’s a good question.

The fact that eludes our political leaders is that the constituency that suffers from noise is twice as large as the constituency that makes the noise. They’re not only hearing-impaired, they’re short-sighted, too.
