King captures Courtesy crown

BARBADOS’ leading junior and Top 50 world-ranked player, Darian King, is now the Courtesy Garage Men’s Open tennis champion.King emphatically defeated Bradley Bryan, a scholarship player from Morehead University in Kentucky, 6-2, 6-3 in last Thursday’s final at the Hilton Barbados courts.King, whose game has reached another level as a result of his experiences at the French Open and Wimbledon, has been playing the best tennis of his young career. The junior competition also began with Barbados’ No.1 Under-12 player Andrew Symmonds reaching the semi-final round by beating nine-year-old Aaron Headley 8-2.In the Boys’ Under-14 section, No. 8 seed Simon Lewis defeated Brandon Dowell 4-0, 5-4, while newcomer Aquille Trotman won a tough three-setter against Samuel Manning 1-4, 4-2, 4-1.
