HUNDREDS OF MEN will on Kadooment Day dare to be different by forsaking the revelry of Crop-Over to spend the time in the presence of the Lord. They will be attending the ninth annual Kadooment Day Men’s Retreat organized by the Men’s Ministry of the People’s Cathedral church. The theme for the all day session is Becoming A Man After God’s Own Heart using 1 Samuel 13 Verse 14 as the text, which says in part: “The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people.” This is in reference to King David considered to be “God’s own man”.The main speaker at this year’s Men’s Retreat will be Apostle Alvin Nicholson, Senior Pastor of Agape Ministries in Ontario, Canada and an affiliate of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.Apostle Nicholson, who  has been in Christian Ministry since 1974, holds a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Illinois, and served for 18 years at the West Indies School of Theology in the capacity of Academic Dean and President. He was also General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies for four years, and senior pastor at Glad Tidings Assembly, Toronto, for two years and has been involved in Family Life Seminars and retreats since 1978.This annual Men’s Retreat has in the past attracted participation from several denominations. Last year over 250 men from 22 different churches and denominations attended and most are preparing to be there again this year.Coordinator and head of Men’s Ministry at The People’s Cathedral, Mike Goddard, said the idea behind the retreat was to get men to recognise and accept their role as leaders. He said: “God wants men to accept the responsibility he has given them as prophet, priest and king in their homes, churches, communities and the nation.”According to him: “Responsible men build living families and the benefits of this are seen in the nation.” He added that Barbados at this time needed men of integrity and that integrity could come by accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and living the life that He has described in The Bible.Men interested in attending or finding out more about the Kadooment Day Men’s Retreat may contact the People’s Cathedral on Bishop’s Court Hill in St Michael. The organisers are asking for a contribution of $25 per man to offset the cost the sumptuous lunch and snacks.
