Thousands of revellers assembled in Warrens yesterday morning for Grand Kadooment transforming the area with every colour in the rainbow.Twenty-two bands and their huge music trucks filled the area before their trek down Green Gill, but not without some final preparations.Confetti, cheese cutters, hot and cold beverages were the order of the day for some who had assembled as early as 6:30 a.m.In almost every hand there was a Mount Gay or Cockspur cup filled with some liquid to boost energy or quench thirst. Even make-up kits with every colour could be seen, as women applied various eye shadows and glued beaded appliqués around their eyesas final decorations. One man was even seen with needle and thread, tacking his costume belt which was a bit slack, while others relaxed on the ground in the Super Centre car park in an effort to conserve some energy.Hundreds lined the roads, standing in the PriceMart car park, in the area near Chicken Barn and in front of Manor Lodge as the bands moved off with favourite tunes booming through the area. The change of atmosphere was welcomed by revellers and bandleaders.Bandleaders said it offered them a chance to assemble their squads in a more effective manner.Gwyneth Squires, who was busy assembling her Silver Jubilee members, said she welcomed the change of venue for proper assembly. “I like it because we are able to go around and check that things are good with the revellers and it also offers me the chance to look and see what the other bands are bringing,” she noted. Leader of the Ravuz Kadooment Band, Lyndon Clarke, said the venue was much more organised than the previous Combermere location. He, too, said it was a lot easier to assemble the band. “I like it up here. Tell them to bring it here again next year,” he said. (CT)
