Jamming to the climax

It was as if the jump had just started, when thousands of revellers jammed down Brighton Hill onto Spring Garden yesterday.Unlike at the start in Warrens, where masqueraders seemed “a little bored”, most seemed packed with energy and charged up “like a pack of Duracel”.Revellers were “out to all”, well aware that the festival was at its climax, and although many were missing shoes, had torn stockings and obviously needed a bath, there was no stopping the party until they reached their final destination.A peep inside the ambulance of The St John Ambulance Brigade revealed women who had been either too tired to jump, or had gotten sick along the way.Although most bands seemed well secured, and were able to keep out those who had not paid to jump in the band, Power X Four was not so lucky. The band was filled with band hoppers who seemed to be quite a nuisance to the female masqueraders inside the band.Brief showers did not dampen the mood, but heightened the level of festivity now parading the highway.Bottle collectors wasted no time in gathering assorted bottles littered across the streets while Defence Force personnel watched with vigilant eyes from the vicinity of the furniture businesses just off the highway. It was evident that although many had made the trip to Spring Garden, some could make it no further, as ambulance sirens were heard every now and again collecting those who needed medical attention. But the day ended on a good note, and after thousands of feet on fire, many just relaxed at their various food tents, filling the gaps of hunger and quenching their thirst, and looking forward to Grand Kadooment 2011.
