PEOPLE interested in the preservation of historical pictures now have the opportunity to enjoy A Taste Of The Caribbean – Environmental Pictures From Dawn ’Til Dusk through a hardcover book which includes environmental portraits of the Caribbean.  The book, which encompasses a number of “priceless, historical photographs” taken by Caribbean recognised and former Nation photographer Kingsley Roberts, was published in his homeland, St Vincent.
The Carib descendant, whose career as a photographer spans three decades beginning with an apprenticeship with one of the great Barbadian photographers, Willie Alleyne, said the photographs in the book were taken throughout his career.  “I remember going through villages in Barbados talking to people of different walks of life; cane cutters, retired teachers and policemen.  “People are into different kinds of art, so what I’m trying to say to people is instead of buying a book that was published in England and America, support your own people and be a part of your history.  “These photographs were taken years ago and Barbados is changing.”
Roberts explained that the book, which is currently only being sold in St Vincent, to will soon be introduced to the Barbados market. (AH)
