St Joseph folk happy Joe’s River bridge open again

THE JOE’S RIVER bridge which has been closed to motorists since April for repairs, was reopened yesterday afternoon. Around 4 p.m. when the WEEKEND NATION visited the St Joseph bridge, workers from the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) could be seen washing down the bridge as vehicles and pedestrians passed across.Some residents of the area were happy with the development. However, one resident voiced concerns of the bridge “being reopened unfinished.”Ronald Headley said he was particularly glad the bridge was reopened because he would no longer be late for work.“I real glad that this bridge open because I have to go to work every Saturday and Sunday and the bridge being closed used to make me get to work late. “I used to have to get to work for 6 a.m. on Sunday and that bus was late every Sunday, which made me get to work at 8 a.m. But . . . I gine be good now that it open,” said a happy Headley.Another resident, who requested anonymity, said: “I’m glad the bridge open because this is our main road and it’s going to make things easier for the people that live out here.”On the other hand, Kerry Ann Nowell-Brown said she could not “understand why they opened that bridge because it is not finished”.“They started giving us a road and I don’t know why they didn’t finish it. That bridge still has a crack in it . . . they are going to wait until somebody in St Joseph gets hurt to complete that bridge properly.“This is a hurry something and it is going to cause a very bad accident . . . . I can see it happening. They could have completed that road and then finish the bridge properly. If people go and look under that bridge they wouldn’t want to drive across it. I know to hide that crack they are going to put some marl on it and then barber green it,” said Nowell-Brown. (AH)
