KFC KICK IT possesses all of the elements necessary to generate local interest in football, and for this reason it is receiving the support of the local governing body for the sport. The competition and family fun evening scheduled for today has been sanctioned by the Barbados Football Association (BFA), with the expectation that the event will spark interest in the sport during the off season period. BFA senior assistant secretary Charles Husbands said maintaining interest in the sport was one of the key roles of the association, and events such as KFC’s Kick It were welcome.“The BFA has always been, and will continue to be supportive of any organised event we believe will assist us in keeping football top of the mind,” Husbands said.“We also believe KFC’s involvement will certainly be of great benefit in this regard, considering the brand’s popularity. The BFA looks forward to working with KFC and all other entities desirous of developing football and particularly interest from the youth of Barbados.”KFC’s marketing coordinator Shekelia Barrow described the BFA’s sanctioning of the event as another example of KFC’s success in working with local organisations.“We are delighted to work with the BFA, and are honoured that our inaugural event has been given their full blessing. KFC is a firm believer in the development of partnerships and we look forward to future collaborations with the BFA and our other Kick It sponsors so that we can continue to host family events for Barbadians to enjoy,” Barrow said.KFC Kick It will kick off today at 4 p.m. at the Wildey AstroTurf where 18 (male and female) participants will be featured in an exciting free kick shoot-out for the grand prize of $10 000. As part of the evening’s festivities, spectators will be treated to an exhibition of a masters’ game between Wales and Wadadah, and fun attractions for children will also be a part of the package. Spectators will also have a chance to win several attractive prizes, including three 40-inch televisions compliments of Courts, vouchers from Sports and Games, cases of Kick energy drink, and KFC premiums.
