A FANCIED RETURN to the play-offs?There wasn’t anything celebratory about St John’s post-season comeback.Astrid Alleyne had all but two of her game-high 27 points over the first three quarters as nine-time league champs Mpact Station Hill Cavaliers coasted to a 73-59 Game 1 victory against Roll-A-Way St John’s Sonics in their women’s basketball best-of-three first-round series at the Wildey Gym.It wasn’t the return Sonics were banking on, having surrendered two separate 12-0 runs to open the first and second quarters of their first play-off game in four years.Chantal Husbands was responsible for breaking both droughts, but got little help outside of older sister Tiffany, as Alleyne and Wanda Agard-Belgrave wreaked havoc in the paint against the shorter opposition.Agard-Belgrave and Tamisha Flatts both scored 14 points, and Ria Phillips added ten, while Tiffany and Chantal topscored for St John’s with 15 and 14 points, respectively. The series continues tonight at the YMCA, preceding Game 1 of the Bulls-Tigers series.
