THEY OFFERED a debt amnesty and they pleaded and pleaded for people to come forward and pay.Today the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s debt collecting drive is going into high gear with the publishing of over 300 names of people who owe money for patient care. The two-page notice on Pages 34A and 35A invites the public to assist the QEH in locating the persons whose last known addresses are also given. Six telephone numbers have been provided for persons to call.The hospital has been on a mission for some time now to collect more than $4.5 million owed.Back in May, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, said it was “unconscionable” that people had benefited from one of the best general hospitals in the eastern Caribbean, but had not paid their debt.She said: “We will be actively and aggressively pursuing the debt owed”.
