Government will soon have proposed solutions to a set of nagging youth problems. The recommendations are coming from the steering committee of the National Youth Forum (NYF), which was yesterday “refining” several coming out of an NYF business meeting. The proposals cover such issues as unemployment among youths, limited education, lifestyle diseases, inadequate housing, and gangs. The low level of participation in the political process, issues related to the environment and difficulties in the family are also addressed in the recommendations.During a meeting at the Barbados Community College yesterday committee member Rhea Mapp said the best of the recommendations would be culled for presentation to – and action by – Government.Another committee member, Chetwyn Ryce, said the proposals included a youth parliament to “shadow” government ministers and the work they do.He told reporters it was important that youths be sold the idea that involvement in the political process was not something bad.He also underscored the need for parliamentarians to be accessible to young people.
