22 hurt in 2-bus crash

HEARTS POUNDED and sirens wailed in the early hours of yesterday morning, as mass casualty services went into action after a two-bus collision in Christ Church.Both a Transport Board bus and a privately owned mini-bus were travelling from Bridgetown to Christ Church when they collided just after 7:30 a.m. at Sargeant’s Village, near the entrance to the popular Sheraton Mall.As a result, 22 people were injured, but luckily, there were no life threatening injuries.A homeowner near the crash allowed medical services to use the nearby Corner Pentecostal Church where the injured were treated.Four ambulances, two firetenders from the Barbados Fire Service’s Probyn Street headquarters, and police responded to the incident.According to the Royal Barbados Police Force’s public relations officer, Inspector David Welch, the three most seriously injured were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.Welch also revealed that the driver of the minibus, Jason Reece, 28, of Golden Rock, Pinelands, complained of back pains and an abrasion to the right hand. He too, was transported to hospital.The Transport Board bus was driven by Rodney Broomes, 35, of Pinder’s Avenue, Culloden Road, St Michael. (BA)
