A confident David “King David” Summerbell Jr heads the regional list of entries for this month-end Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) Digicel Williams International Race Meet at Bushy Park.Summerbell, who will be driving the Total/PPG Paints Evo VIII, is the defending champion of the Caribbean Motoring Racing Championship (CMRC).The second edition will be decided at Bushy Park during the international race meet on August 28 and 29, and Summerbell, who has 30 points, sits atop the standings and is looking forward to meeting the competition.The Jamaican, the only driver of the current crop to have won CMRC races at all three host circuits, said he would be ready and geared for Bushy Park this time around, adding that he and his team had done their homework.Two other highly-rated Jamaicans, Peter Rae who will be driving a Mazda RX 7, is second in the CMRC standings with 26 points, and Doug “Hollywood” Gore who is yet to score, is in the Slam Condoms/Sherwin Williams Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X.
Five Guyanese driversKeen to capitalise on its early lead, the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club is fielding five drivers. Among them is Mark Vieira who, with five wins to his credit at Bushy Park since 2003, will be at the wheel of the Digicel Mazda RX8. Currently fourth in the CMRC standings, he placed third in the first two races at Dover, and won the third at the first CMRC meeting in Jamaica earlier this year.The other Guyanese coming are Andrew King, former bike racer Kevin Jeffrey, and Canadian-based Paul Vieira and Shawn King, who will both be driving RX7 cars.The regional list is completed by Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sports Association’s Jody Ali, who will be seeing action at Bushy Park for the first time, driving a Subaru Impreza,However, Ali will be by no means a push-over as he is the former Dexterity Champion and Top Drifter. He also has drag racing experience, setting the lowest time (8.9 seconds) and highest speed (164 mph) ever for a car in a Toyota Supra at an event in St Lucia in February.Guyana lead the team standings with 64 points, followed by Jamaica on 56, and Barbados a distant third on 16The CMRC drivers’ standings to date:1. * David Summerbell (JAM) 30 point, 2.
