CHRISTIAN LYTE had personal business to take care of in Barbados. It so happened he would also take care of business on the track. From one-time European junior champ to Bajan three-time winner, Lyte had a local cycling debut like none other after dominating Wednesday’s track league at the Randolph Field Velodrome, National Stadium.A former title holder of the keirin and match sprint at the European junior level, the British-born Lyte has been somewhat of a debated selection for the just concluded Central American and Caribbean Games and the upcoming Commonwealth Championships. It’s safe to say the debate is now over.Lyte gave the doubters a first-hand view of his talents after winning all three of his events, which included a 1 500 metres race, and two featured 500 metre events against some of Barbados’ fastest. And this was without his own bike, as local club G4S had to loan him both gear and equipment. Though not as dominant, Brandon Wilkie had an equally impressive showing in the open 10 000 metres, with the junior lapping all but second-placed Dwayne Bellamy in the 20-lap event.Liam Lovell (tiny mites), Kristin Vanderpool (juveniles) and Deidre Mayers (masters/women) were the other top performers on the night.
