PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – Budget Day is Wednesday, September 8.Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the announcement at Piarco International Airport following her return from a ten-day trip to New York on Sunday.This will be the first budget the People’s Partnership government will deliver since its sweeping victory at the May 24 general election.Finance Minister Winston Dookeran will deliver the budget in the Parliament.“I wish to thank the national community for its support and to reaffirm our commitment to serve the people. “The task has not been easy but your government is committed, willing and able. In furtherance of this, I am pleased to announce that on September 8, 2010, the Minister of Finance will present the budget for the fiscal year 2010/2011,” said Persad-Bissessar.She said she would begin pre-budget consultations from today.Persad-Bissessar added that the Cabinet retreat, which was postponed because of the flooding disaster, would take place from September 1.Dookeran, who acted as prime minister during Persad-Bissessar’s absence, told the Express that although he would be hard-pressed, he would be ready to deliver the budget.Persad-Bissesar, who fell ill during the New York trip, said she was feeling much better but still had a cough.
