Robert Gill is ready to take on the Barbados Auto Racing League’s (BARL) champion Jason Harewood when they meet in the Digicel Williams International Race Meet at Bushy Park on Sunday.Gill told NATIONSPORT that he had completed his preparation and remedial work and the Save-Alot-Value Mart/Castrol Toyota Starlet was crisp and ready to go.Technical specialist Clive Wiggins fitted a new cylinder head in the engine and a new exhaust system in time for the drivers’ “After Work” public sessions held at Warrens over the last three weeks in the run-up to the race meet. But Gill, a former Group 2A champion, now campaigning in Group 2B, admitted that it would not be easy as the group was loaded with tough drivers all capable of winning.More powerApart from the overall championship leader Jason Harewood, who also leads Group 2B, drivers such as Winston Grecia, Shawn Boxill, Jason Parkinson and the veteran Freddie Mapp are expected to provide fierce competition.Noting that his fastest lap time this year was 50.6 seconds, Gill said that he should be about two seconds faster now, as he would have a little more power and the car should be handling better.Gill’s minimum target is 49.5 seconds, which is the time bracket for the group, and he is confident that he and the car are a winning combination.“I am going out there to win. It’s as simple as that,” he said.He noted that the meet has attracted the cream of the crop and he expects it to be very keenly contested. He called for good clean racing throughout the weekend, which begins with official qualifying on Saturday at 1 p.m.
